Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Overview
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was originally launched in 2014 and since then the Ciaz sedan has been a strong performer in its segment and has been the sales leader too, consistently beating the Honda City and previous Hyundai Verna. Recently though, the Honda City got a facelift and the new Hyundai Verna too was introduced. Even Toyota entered this segment in India with the Yaris sedan, making it critical for Maruti Suzuki to give the Ciaz an update. Finally, after weeks of speculation, the company has launched the 2018 Ciaz facelift and we drove it around Bengaluru to find out if the updates are going to be enough to keep the competition at bay or not. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz price range in India is between 8,02,179/- to 12,01,563/, check for detail pricing of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in Carzprice
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Design
The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz exterior gets a chrome-glutted grille and a wider black meshed reworked grille at the front. The redesigned headlamps now come with LED DRLs and restyled bumper, with larger intakes and new fog lamp enclosures with LED fog lamps. Move to the sides and you can see the 16-inch alloys. Changes to the rear are minimal, save for the new LED combination tail-lamps and a slightly tweaked bumper. As for the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz colours, it can be had in multiple options.
The Maruti Ciaz has a very grown up appearance with it’s subtle design cues. It’s large dimensions are evident, giving it a premium appeal along with the right design cues. The front is very contemporary and exudes a premium feel to it which is carried over to the side as well as the rear. This silhouette keeps the design of the Ciaz simple yet modern.
Similar to the exterior, changes in the cabin too are subtle and pleasant. The dashboard now gets a faux wood finish that adds richness to the cabin. The instrument cluster gets a new multi-information display that is energetically colourful. This is the same unit found in the Baleno but being flanked by redesigned circular speedo and tacho pods gives the cluster a modern touch. Another new inclusion is the cruise control, which should prove helpful on highways.
Apart from this, the cabin remains largely similar to the previous version and that isn’t bad since the Ciaz retains strong points such as great rear legroom, good seats and practical and convenient features including the same touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, Aux-in and navigation options.
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Performance
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz gets a new 1.5-litre, K-Series petrol engine with maximum power of 103 bhp at 6,000 rpm against 138 Nm torque at 4,400 rpm. The diesel variants continue to use a 1.3-litre DDiS oil burner with 89 bhp and 200 Nm torque. Interestingly, the new engine also comes with Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid (SHVS) system. Transmission choices include a five-speed manual and a four-speed auto gearbox. The Maruti Ciaz is powered by a 1.4 litre petrol engine and a 1.3 litre diesel engine. Both engines are smaller than most of it’s competition and develop lesser power. The engines are refined and have linear power delivery. That said, they are not tuned to deliver outright performance but tuned extensively for good fuel efficiency and offer decent highway and urban speeds. If you are looking at a performance sedan, this is not for you. That said, if you would want a comfortable cruiser that is affordable, reliable and checks all the boxes in terms of features, the Ciaz is what you should buy. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz mileage for the new petrol engine is rated at an impressive 21.56 km/l, whereas the diesel engine delivers 28.09 km/l in ideal conditions. The Maruti Ciaz has a very efficient set of petrol and diesel engines that give the car very good fuel efficiency, not just in it’s segment, but overall in the market. The Ciaz SHVS diesel mild-hybrid is the most efficient diesel-powered car in the country with a mileage of 28.09 km/l
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Rideing
While the suspension setup on the new Ciaz is the same as the old one it has been tuned for more comfort. The change is quite evident and the Ciaz now pretty much glides over small surface undulations. Larger potholes are dealt with in a much better manner and the overall ride quality feels more cushioned too. The improved ride quality along with the impressive rear seat comfort makes the Ciaz a great option for people looking to be chauffeur-driven.
However, one thing that felt amiss was the steering, which feels strangely heavy while operating when not in motion. The feedback too felt lesser than that offered in the previous Ciaz. A company spokesperson confirmed that no changes have been made to the steering unit and the additional weight of the steering wheel could be due to the additional weight of the car upfront as the engine alone is about 20 kg heavier than the older unit.View offers on Maruti Cars from Maruti dealers in Hyderabad at Autozhop
Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Safety
Along with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, the all-new Maruti Ciaz 2018 now comes with an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Hill Hold Function, while co-passenger seatbelt reminder, speed alert system and reverse parking sensors are offered across the range. The Maruti Ciaz has a soft suspension setup that gives it comfortable and stable road manners. As a result, there is a fair amount of body roll around corners. So, this is not the right car to be thrown in a turn hard which will lead to a lot of under-steer. But, the Ciaz is very well-planted when driven in a sane manner irrespective of the road conditions.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz Verdict
The new 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift is a better car in multiple areas, especially the engine and safety ones. The car, which has always been positioned as a comfortable, practical and elegant car now builds further on its strengths. However, the car isn’t short of drawbacks that have been discussed earlier in this article. This brings us to the price and this is where Maruti Suzuki claws back lost ground with a starting selling tag of Rs 8.19 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi with the top petrol AT and diesel variants costing Rs 10.97 lakh. For its price, the new Ciaz offers exceptional value-for-money and I won’t be surprised if the new Ciaz becomes the best-selling sedan in its segment in the months to come.
